School Division Leaders: Space is limited for the 2016-2017 Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program!
The 2014 VKRP pilot project discovered that 34 percent of children in the Commonwealth arrive at kindergarten unprepared in one or more critical learning domains (literacy, math, self-regulation, and social skills).
In 2015, Virginia initiated a statewide implementation of the VKRP in the state budget to provide a more complete picture of kindergarten children’s incoming skills and equally as important, to help inform teacher practices. This time last year 21 school divisions participated in the kickoff.
This fall and working with the Virginia Department of Education, the University of Virginia’s Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning will expand participation to approximately 40 divisions. The purpose of this graduated roll-out is to allow for input from teachers and administrators to enhance feasibility and usefulness of the assessment.(More information here).
We hope you will join us as an “early VKRP adopter” and help shape this growing comprehensive assessment for the entire Commonwealth. Numerous divisions have already committed to 2016; let us hear from you quickly. VKRP is provided at no cost to your school division.
