Are you cheering for the Cards or a diehard Red Sox fan? Either way you can help a child develop strong literacy and math skills with a little World Series fun & games…
- Read the alphabet book (there is a great book entitled H is for Home Run)
- Watch the World Series together & find as many shapes as you can with your child. Lots of geometry readiness in watching baseball.
- Sit down with your child and draw a baseball picture and talk about the shapes you are making, count the bases around the field and, most importantly, create & have fun!!
- Play a baseball matching game with letters or numbers- draw baseballs on a sheet of construction paper(you will need 40 baseballs or 20 baseballs/ 20 bats/ mitts), write numbers 1-20, then draw dots on each baseball and match them up. For example, match the number 5 to the mitt with the five dots. Don’t forget to have your child point to each dot as they count.
You could also cut out baseballs with various alphabet letters and make words.
- Does your child have any baseball cards? Play the Baseball Card Shuffle by sorting the cards by teams, players or colors. You can also count them as you go along.
